The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund is an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria and one of the foremost Social Insurance organizations in Africa with a long history of social service dating back to 1961.
NSITF was transformed in 2004 to offer better social security service to the citizens.
Part of the transformation has led to the establishment of the Employee’s
compensation Act (2010) and the employee compensation scheme which is now run by the organization.
As an organization positioned to be the leading social security provider in Africa, the management of NSITF identified information Technology as one of the tools to drive internal operations and their services to the public. This has lead to huge investment in Information Technology services by the organization in the last two years.
Having invested in IT as a tool to deliver services, the management realized the need to build the capacity of their IT department by enhancing their knowledge of IT service management, hence ITIL® Framework was adopted for IT service Management within NSITF in order to reduce risk and improve the quality of service delivery to the public.
“As a service oriented organization, IT is very important to our operations, this is why we are investing in ITIL® Framework as a tool for IT service management” says, General Manager, IT department, Mrs. Catherine Ugbe
On adopting ITIL® as the preferred framework for IT service management, there were needs for indigenous organizations duly licensed to conduct ITIL® training in Nigeria to facilitate the delivery of ITIL® Foundation training and prepare the staff for the Foundation Exam.
With submissions from many training firms, Management Edge was chosen to conduct the training and certification of participants.
“We chose Management Edge because of their experience in ITIL® training delivery and we equally found out that they are the only Authorized Training Provider in the country” says the Assistant Manager, Mr Geoffrey Otokito.
The training which ran in two batches was conducted in the Lagos office of Management Edge from the month of May through to June 2013. After the training, an exam was conducted for all the participants and all thirty one of them who sat for the exams passed.
In a response by one of the participants Mr. Mfam “I am happy to be part of this training as I am more informed and the knowledge acquired will no doubt help in the delivery of my work in the office. The training is quite interesting and the trainers demonstrated a good knowledge of the subject matter “, said Mr. Gbahbong Manfa Nden a deputy manager at NSITF.”
